"Han-Shi was a monk from the lands of Avanima, who had received a vision in his dreams. In that vision, he saw a paradise of unimaginable beauty beyond the borders of Tumiun, such beauty that he dedicated his life to building a stairway up to the tops of the Walls of the World. For seventeen years the monk and a team of Delvers worked on the steps, hewing them from the hard dark stone, but when it reached a height of six miles, the progress halted. The snow and the cold were too much, and the losses had been too great. Where first there were thirty dwarves, now only five remained. Those five gave up at last, and climbed down again, but Han-Shi would not go down. He continued by himself, climbing perhaps the highest any man in Tumiun has ever climbed. But when the Dwarves finally reached the ships down by the sea, they found the broken body of Han-Shi, washed up on the shoreline, with a warm smile on his frozen face. The Stairs of Han-Shi Tanong have now become an almost holy place, with visitors trying to climb them as high as Han-Shi once did, to honor the memory of the fabled monk."
